To most of those born with the sun in Cancer, 2013 will be as void of significant events as 2012 has been. Both years start with no planets in the sign of Cancer.
That will change in 2014, when Jupiter will be in the middle of the Cancer sign at New Year, with several important aspects to other planets. But that’s way ahead.
Still, some of Jupiter’s influence will begin already in July 2013, when the planet enters Cancer, creating a lot of events, most of them fortunate and all of them leading to stimulating experiences.

Other planets will also pass through Cancer during the summer of 2013: The sun and its companions Mercury and Venus do. Also Mars will enter Cancer at that period.
So, from the summer on, there will be more things happening to Cancer. It will take until the following year before really important events take place, but the second half of 2013 – especially the summer – will give good clues as to what is to expect for 2014.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, meaning that many things happen – new experiences, exciting opportunities. It’s the planet of good fortune, what we call luck. It can still be confusing at times, and it’s not sure that everything coming with Jupiter remains for long – but it’s a fun ride while it lasts. And the planet doesn’t return to the same sign until another twelve years have passed.
For 2013 as a whole, what Cancer feels the most is the opposition to Pluto and the sun in Capricorn, in the New Year horoscope. The sun moves on, but Pluto remains practically at the same spot the whole year. This leads to problems with changes in how society is structured, affecting all the citizens more or less. To Cancer it’s often a nuisance, but what to do?
Big things are developed and old established orders are altered, way over the heads of people. It’s just to try to adapt, but Cancer is doing that very reluctantly. Society seems to move towards materialism in a grand scale, forgetting about people’s emotional needs, ignoring the importance of everyone feeling secure and protected.
It’s like they say: to make an omelet, you have to crack a few eggs. Cancer wonders if it’s worth it.
Another planet making a mark in 2013 is Saturn in Scorpio, which is at trine aspect to Cancer. Its major effect in the world is increased uncertainty, not to say chaos, in the world economy, but these things somehow seem to benefit Cancer instead of the opposite.
Most Cancers are well protected from the disorder in the economy. They may even profit from it. Also, it makes them aware of the importance of not depending too much on material things. They knew that all along, but here they get proof for it.
Medium Coeli in Cancer
There is one astrological point in Cancer of the 2013 New Year world horoscope: Medium Coeli. That’s not exactly something affecting Cancers in their personal lives, but they will feel that they are in accordance with what seems to be the overall ambition of the world leaders: struggling to protect the populations from suffering, whatever happens in the world. Not an easy thing, but each Cancer agrees that it’s the most important object for anyone who has the power to accomplish it. And the Cancers are happy to join in the effort.
But Cancer also feels that this is not outspokenly clear in society. That’s because of the square to the Ascendant in Libra of the 2013 world horoscope. We all seem to pretend that society is all about justice and a moral order, but that can really be an obstacle when it comes to caring for the world properly. Although it sounds good, justice is not what should come first, nor is balance or order.
Neptune is entering Pisces, which is at trine distance to Cancer, but its effect is slow and sort of discreet, at least in 2013 and the following year. It inspires Cancers to search for new solutions to old problems, and to do it by help of the imagination. That may seem odd, even absurd, but it will work.
To sum it up: Not much happens to Cancer in 2013 before July, but then all kinds of things start to accelerate, opening for lots of opportunities. There are complications, but they appear where little can be done about them.
